Vauxhall Astra Extreme will come to UK in 2015. It is the most powerful front-wheel drive Vauxhall ever produced. It is based on Vauxhall Astra VXR, but it is more powerful and lighter.

Hatchback cars are successful in UK and the Vauxhall Astra Extreme is designed and manufactured to target the hatchback lovers. It was unveiled in Geneva Motor Show and a ver similar car to Astra VXR, but offers more powerful ride.

Vauxhall Astra Extreme is powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine that produces over 300bhp. It is influenced by the specification of the German OPC Cup race cars as described by the auto express. It comes with manual six speed transmission fully customized with different ratios and strong materials.

The new Vauxhall Astra Extreme weighs 100KG less than the VXR. Front wings use aluminium instead of steel that weighs 0.8kg. The carbon fibre roof weighs just 2.6kg as compared to the steel roof in VXR that weighs 9.3kg.

Vauxhall claims that reducing the vehicle weight massively increased the agility and performance. It also receives 370mm discs and six-piston Brembo callipers. Back seats are also replaced with the roll cage and six point safety belts are additional.

The production will depend on the demand of the vehicle and only 50 to 300 will be in production. Vauxhall goals are to reach break-even with their hatchback versions in 2016. GM decision to pull out Chevrolet from Europe will help Vauxhall to reach break-even by 2016.

Astra Extreme design looks very appealing to the eyes and it will certainly look good on the roads. The front grille and the lights perfectly curved. The 19inch sports wheel looks perfectly blended with the car and adds extra fusion in the looks.

You have to wait till 2015 to get your hands on street legal version of Vauxhall Astra Extreme. It is no doubt a good step by British manufacturer to capture the hatchback market. According to our sources, hot hatches and hatchbacks trend is moving upward in UK. Most of the new car buyers prefer to buy a hatchback.
