Home / Audi / Audi A7 Sportback Review, A7 Pictures, Prices and Specifications

Our review is based on our own analysis of various published car reviews of Audi A7 Sportback and test drive data available online. When the Audi A7 Sportback was first presented the word “sporty” was used a lot and most people think that this is just an A6 model that has been improved and is sportier. This is not at all correct and you will quickly realize this after driving the car for some time. A correct term to describe the vehicle would be GT and because of the fact that BMW named the 5 Series GT this way, the term Sportsback was probably used.

The truth is that we are in front of a really impressive vehicle that is really elegant, definitely more than non-sporty models like the R8 or TT. At the basis we can describe the Audi A7 Sportback as an A5 Sportback that is larger and comes with a platform located somewhere between A5 and A8.

Audi A7 Sportback can easily be categorized as a niche product that is launched by a well known manufacturer. Common examples are the Passat CC, the CLS and the 5-Series GT but we can say that the A7 Sportback is not similar in terms of how it is niched. However, the A7 Sportsback is not that new although the real question that people want to know the answer to is: “Is This a Good and Reliable Car?”

Audi A7 Prices

The Prices do not vary as much as with other companies recently launched on the market but there are differences based on extra equipment and engine choices. The cheapest model is the Standard Diesel 3.0 TDI that costs £39,995 and the most expensive one is the S Line 3.0 TFSI Quattro, which costs £49,880.

Power and Performance

The Audi A7 Sportback offers 3 engine possibilities. The first one is the 3.0 TDI TurboDiesel (201bhp or 241bhp). The second one is the 3.0 TFSI Supercharged-Petrol (296bhp). The third one is the entry level 2.8 FSI petrol (201bhp). What you might want to know is the fact that every single option that you have is very good when thinking about performance. The only real problem that was found was a chain weak link problem with the 2.8 litre option. In the event that you try to push it too hard it will feel a little weird and not as good as the other motorizations.

The best option that is recommended for the casual driver is the SuperCharged Petrol 3.0 engine. However, both the TDI options are also decent and the power offered will be enough even for most people that want a strong engine. The top speed offered is 155 mph and acceleration is on par with other similar models from the competition.

Interior and Exterior

Not much can be said about the exterior of the Audi A7 Sportback series. It is pretty much exactly as you would expect from the manufacturer and the classic design of the A models is maintained. The interior will blend perfectly with all by offering a very good balance between luxurious features and expected features.

What you will most likely love is the fact that the cabin is incredibly well sound proof. You will not really hear the engine and this will make the long journeys really easy to bear with. During tests there was no road or wind noise noticed at all speeds tried. The only real problem is that the TFSI 3.0 engine sound has been lowered too much and this might not fit well with fans of sports cars.

Safety & Reliability

While the car’s body is made out of Aluminium, the chassis offers a good mixture of really high strength steels. Structural integrity is properly maintained even when faced with collisions and all safety systems that are standard are included. You will find stability and traction control. Other interesting features can be added if you pay more. Most drivers love the fact that they are warned where they are too close to a car and the car will automatically break when it believes that there is an imminent collision to appear.

When talking about reliability, Audi has never had a bad name and there are no signs that this is going to change in the future. We can say that A7 looks like nothing can hurt it and nothing negative can be said when referring to parts used or reliability problems that might appear.

eBest Cars Verdict

The truth is that the A7 looks really well and you will love driving it for long distances. The manufacturer did a great job at offering high quality equipments and the aluminum included will make the body of the car weigh less while offering low fuel consumption. We can only say one bad thing about the car. It is not actually sporty because of the steering but people that buy A7 Sportsback models will probably expect this from the overall design. The running costs are not cheap and you will get high priced Auto Insurance. However, Audi A7 Sportback is much cheaper to run as compare to rivals with 3.0 litre TDI Quattro 47.1mpg. The green credentials are not so good with 158g/km of CO2 emission. You can visit Aviva Auto Insurance to get the best rate.
