Power & Performance

Volvo S60 offers high performance with even the 1.6 litre engine. The 2.0 litre five cylinder engine produces impressive 161bhp, and the D5 engine is more powerful with 202bhp. However, the real deal is 3.0 litre T6 four-cylinder petrol engine. Comparing the weakest T3 1.6 litre petrol and diesel engine provides adequate performance. Moreover, they are most economical and environmental friendly producing 115bhp. The manual transmission is not impressive, but Six-speed Geartronic transmission provides smooth gear changes.

Volvo claims that S60 is engineered to perform like a sports saloon. That being said, but it cannot compete with BMW 3 Series and Mercedes Benz C Class. If you are real driving enthusiast, then pick one of the Germans made executives. However, the driving is not so disappointing according to most of the car reviewers. Addition of R-Design has significantly improved the driving and handling of S60. It offers decent driving dynamics, with strong handling, and excellent road grip. The T6 is even better with AWD and performs best while cornering. The overall handling is crispy with firm suspension in all trims.

Interior & Exterior

Volvo S60 is one of the most comfortable executives out there. The inside cabin is not so much flashy, but the top-notch materials used to give a luxurious feel. In addition, the high-tech gadgets are installed to provide easy controls. There is sufficient room inside to provide comfortable journey. However, the luggage space is not as much considering other competitors, but it can accommodate most things practically. Comparing with the competition, it has the lowest luggage capacity of 339 litres. There are many standard features like cruise control, City Safety System, alloy wheels and climate control. There is also Bluetooth and upgraded stereo system in higher priced versions. There is also leather upholstery, heated seats and active headlights in advance versions.

Volvo S60 The exterior design is liked by most car reviewers and quite appealing on the road. The new R-Design gives S60 even more sportier look and attractive feel. There is exterior styling kit that enhances the look, but it costs £995. The exterior design is very attractive and applauded by car reviewers and worth driving.

Safety & Reliability

Volvo S60 has not yet crash tested by Euro NCAP http://www.euroncap.com, but Volvo has decent safety record. Volvo makes the safest cars in the world and comes with plenty of safety features. It has standard six airbags and anti-skid  control. S60 uses the radar to detect any input applied to brakes. There is new safety technology “Pedestrian Protection”. Other safety features include Driver Support Pack, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Blind Spot information system.

Volvo has a history of making reliable cars and customer satisfaction record. S60 comes with three years or 60,000 miles warranty. You need to check your local dealer for test drive and price bargain.

eBest Cars Verdict

The running costs are economical on D3 and D5 with 53.3mpg average and low CO2 emissions of 139g/km. Hence, both fall in VED Band E for road tax. The T6 version is the most expensive to run and maintain. You can also get the best auto insurance coverage on the vehicle due to safety and reliability data.
