Home / BMW / BMW X5 2010 Review, Superior Performance Simplified

BMW X5 offers superior driving experience and luxury interior. However, it is expensive as compare to its rivals. The iDrive interior controls make some trouble for few people, but they are worth the price.

If you want to compare the cost with sporty luxurious drive, it is priceless and X5 is the best choice for you. X5 can also be used as a family vehicle with smooth drive. However, you will be paying the extra premium starting at nearly $48,000. The fuel economy rating is 15/21 mpg and as compare to the rest of the vehicles it is about average. The one advantage that it has over its rivals is xDrive all wheel drive system.

X5 provides the sporty handling and doesn’t suffer as other BMWs from its iDrive control systems. X5 is pricy and especially the V8 form, the best bet can be xDrive 35d model. However, it costs more than the base model, but it has 19/21 mpg rating as compare to other vehicles in its class.

For 2010 model, X5’s iDrive system is updated for better usability and performance. It also has HD radio as standard and automatic high beam lights as a new option which is an excellent choice. The BMW X5 comes in three variants xDrive30i, xDrive48i and diesel-powered xDrive35d and BMW X5 M which we will review later.

BMW Ratings

Performance: 8.5 (Very Good)

Exterior: 8.6 (Very Good)

Interior: 8.5 (Very Good)

Safety: 9.8 (Excellent)

Reliability: 8 (Good)

X5 provides the excellent performance and it is trump card for this vehicle. Handling is like sports sedan, it is an added advantage. However, fuel economy is not good, but the diesel option is good for those who are looking to save.

Power & Acceleration

The xDrive30i comes with a 3.0 litre in line six cylinder engines, which makes it powerful 260 horsepower. And the xDrive48i comes with a 4.8 litre V8, which makes super 350 horsepower. The xDrive35d comes with a 3.0 litre powerful 265 horsepower six cylinders advanced diesel twin turbo charged engine. That gives X5 super power and performance. The gears are with 6 speed automatic transmission with manual mode. Some of the people are impressed with the gasoline power and few are not impressed with diesel power engine.

BMW X5 exterior sleek looks impress most of the car lovers. Exterior features include metallic paint, halogen fog-lights, xenon adaptive headlights, dual power outside mirrors and chrome exhaust tips.

Impressing Interior

X5 has lots of high-tech and comfort features, however, several people complain about the iDrive complicated interface.

Front seats are very comfortable; however, the optional third row is little cramped for mid sized SUV. The rare option of Active ventilated seat package keeps you cool in summers. There is also an option of Cold Weather Package which adds heated front and rear seats.

The standard interior features are luxurious and comfortable for everyone. BMW’s cargo capacity is adequate, but it is small for its class. BMW X5 2010 provides 7.1 cubic feet of space behind the third row, which is enough for standard use. However, when third row is folded down, it expands to 18.5 cubic feet, which gives extra space for your need.

The new BMW X5 2010 is excellent in safety for drivers and it is also safe for the passenger. The rear view camera package is also available as an option for parking. The overall rating gives BMW X5 one of the safest cars.
