According to the news report, diesel emissions caused more than 90% of the UK to reach illegal air pollution in 2013. According to the new Government report, 90 percent of the UK has reached illegal air pollution levels because of diesel emissions from diesel cars.

Pollution in 38 areas out of 43 areas in UK has exceeded the EU’s limit for nitrogen dioxide (NO2) – a gas responsible for thousands of premature deaths every year.

The report was submitted by Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) to the European Commission.

UK is divided in different zones and only five places were below the pollution levels defined by EU. EU has already started legal proceedings against UK for not maintaining pollution levels.

According to the reports, more than 50% percent car sales comprised of diesel cars. There are more and more diesel cars introduced in UK every year.

Authorities are now calling for green alternatives including the hybrid and electronic car options. Is it going to help in reducing the air pollution?
