Jaguar has a strong reputation of manufacturing cars that people love. And Jaguar XK Convertible is one of them that can be on your list. However, the running costs and the list price is high. The Jaguar version that is deemed clean averages 25mpg. However, this running cost is expected to drop deeply as long as you maintain the standards that manufacturers advise. It is also worth noting that the car has a very low resale value and after an average of three years the car will have depreciated.
Power and performance
The Jaguar XK comes in various versions although the standard XK has a 380bhp 5.0-litre V8. The deep pocketed Jaguar lovers who prefer more powerful engines may go for the supercharged versions, that is, XKR and XKR-S which produce 503bhp and 542bhp respectively.
The XK’s performance on the road is second to none and for the supercharged versions the performance is breath-taking. The car comes with a six-speed automatic gearbox and this makes acceleration from start very impressive. You can feel the progress as you cruise.
The flipside of the Jaguar XK convertible is that it is not as stable on the road as the Coupe version. A patched up road especially an urban one can make cruising terrible as you can feel the car shaking and whacking. This is upon starting but once the speed has picked up the ride softens. The car becomes firm and stable. On a wavy road the worry of getting off the road should not cross your mind since the steering is quite impressive. Changing directions happens faster and this isn’t expected for a car of Jaguar XK size. The XKR and XKR-S are stiffly suspended and the ride isn’t bad either.
For a motoring enthusiast, the engine growl especially as it disappears into thin air is irresistible. The friction from tyre rubber and coarse roads shouldn’t worry you as this is solved. Another edge for this car is the smooth transition of the automatic gear changing that is well noticed when the car is set on sport. Driving with the roof down offers an awesome experience as the wind is kept at bay.

Interior and Exterior
The interior of the XK convertible is not very different from the average sports car that is deemed to be the competitor. The materials are quite average compared to the purchasing price of the XK since an awesome interior should be the case. The gearshift tabs, steering column and the touchscreen area below the dashboard is not pleasing either. The various buttons in the car feel average too. I bet the expectations were quite high after the launch.
Safety and Reliability
In the recent past, the reliability of Jaguar has been impressive to most car lovers. It goes without mentioning that Jaguar has maintained the security bar. Not only are the passengers protected in the event of a crash but pedestrians too. How cool is that! Thanks to the bonnet lid which is pyrotechnically triggered hence pops up for pedestrian protection in case a crash takes place.
eBest Cars Verdict
The Jaguar XK convertible fits the bill when it comes to safety and it is really worth the cash. The purchase price and associated maintenance costs should not affect your resolve to buy it. Go for it and enjoy a sporty ride!
